COVID-19
Response
The autism community faces extraordinary challenges during the COVID-19 crisis and we are here on the front lines supporting our families. We are providing food, masks, the latest information and resources, online programs, and advocating to ensure our families’ needs are not forgotten.
The Autism Society Inland Empire continues to remain committed to improving the lives of all affected by autism across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, providing information, resources, and advocacy efforts to address these urgent needs.
Since COVID started in March 2020 our organization has:
- Provided over 1,000 meals to local families
- Distributed over 225,000 masks
- educated over 10,000 individuals on one of our 20 webinars
- provided fun online social opportunities to over 2,000 children and adults
- provided support through our online support groups to over 300 people
- advocated for the CA Department of Public Health to issue guidance on hospital visitation for a support person. The All Facilities Letter (AFL) released on May 2, 2020, notified all facilities of updated visitor guidelines for pediatric patients, patients in labor and delivery, and patients at end-of-life and patients with physical, intellectual, and/or developmental disabilities and patients with cognitive impairments
This All Facilities Letter, clarifies that health facilities may permit a support person to accompany a patient for whom a support person has been determined to be essential to the care of the patient (medically necessary), including patients with physical, intellectual, and/or developmental disabilities and patients with cognitive impairments. https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CHCQ/LCP/Pages/AFL-20-38.aspx
