Person-Centered Tools
Person-centered tools can help families prepare for their Regional Center Individual Program Plan (IPP) by making the process easier and more meaningful. These tools help you organize your thoughts about your loved one’s strengths, needs, and goals so you can walk into the meeting feeling confident and prepared.
- They can make it easier to communicate what is most important for your family member—what helps them thrive, what challenges they face, and what supports truly make a difference. By reviewing this information ahead of time, families can clearly explain what is working, what is not, and what changes or services are needed.
- Person-centered tools may also reduce stress by giving families a simple structure to follow. They help capture everyday examples that Regional Center staff may not see, such as routines, safety needs, communication styles, sensory preferences, or strategies that help at home and in the community.
- Most importantly, these tools ensure the IPP stays focused on the individual—not on paperwork or programs. They help the Regional Center team understand your child or adult family member as a whole person and support a plan that reflects what matters most to your family.
